Description
White poppies were first created in 1933 by the Cooperative Womens Guild who were worried by the growing militarism of rememberance services and the shifting of focus from what Elenor Barton (the General Secretary of the Guild) descrives as “that ‘Never Again’ spirit that was strong in 1918, but seems to grow weaker as years go on”.
As well as this focus on a commitment to peace, white poppies remember all victims of war and challenge the attempts to glamorise or celebrate war.
These poppies have been designed by Sophie, a long term peace activist, and printed in the UK. We will donate 50p from the sale of each poppy to charities focused on peace education.
